What is this site?
piCalc is designed to assist in the production of a Schedule of Damages in personal
injury and clinical negligence cases. It does this by helping you obtain the various
rates and multipliers needed to calculate the losses in your schedule. Some of the
calculators are designed for a specific section of the schedule – for instance,
there is a calculator to work out the interest due for past losses and another to
calculate future care costs. There are also additional calculators that are not
specific to a schedule but useful information that will help you work out multiplicands,
such as the tax calculator.
How does this site work?
piCalc has all of the current (Version 6) Ogden Table data along with past interest
rates, RPI data and tax tables. Rather than requiring you to know how to work out
the various rates and multipliers, piCalc does all of this for you, quickly and
easily. Complicated calculations become simply a matter of selecting the right dates
for the injured party and all of the multipliers are immediately available. piCalc
follows the methods used in the explanatory notes of the Ogden Tables so that you
can be confident that the results you have will be accurate.
Past Losses
(Show Details...)
interestCalc - quick calculator for interest
accrued between 2 dates.
pastlossCalc - a more advanced calculator
for value and interest accrued on multiple past losses (such as physiotherapy over a period).
Future Losses
(Show Details...)
futurelossCalc - future loss
calculator for use where loss is over a certain period.
earningsCalc - variable future earnings
calculator for use where earnings are expected to change over the working life (such
as promotion) using methods described in paragraph 23 of the explanatory notes -
this method incorporates Tables A-D
for Contingencies other than Mortality and removes the need for a separate Smith
v Manchester award.
costCalc - variable lifetime costs
calculator where annual losses are expected to change over time (such as care) using
methods described in paragraph 24 of the explanatory notes.
QuickCalc - some quick and easy calculators when all you want is a single result
Dependant (Fatal)
(Show Details...)
fatalCalc - calculates using rule of thumb
method multiplicands for fatal accident cases.
dependencyCalc - a calculator providing
loss values for dependants of the deceased in fatal claims.
Useful Tools
(Show Details...)
R v JCalc - calculate housing claim values
using our simple Roberts v Johnstone calculator.
upliftCalc - get the latest RPI figures and
uplift value using our simple Heil v Rankin calculator.
ageCalc - obtain an accurate (2DP) age at a
particular date.
durationCalc - obtain an accurate (2DP)
duration between 2 dates.
taxCalc - obtain Net earnings for current and
previous years.
